I love Lynda Benglis

Female Sensibility (1973)

- For this video, Benglis and Marilyn Lenkowsky Gorchov, both in garish lipstick, kiss and caress each other onscreen. The women are shot close up, their faces filing the frame as they take turns directing and observing their own actions while a soundtrack of clips from talk radio and country music plays. A mockery of the insistence on a uniquely feminine position within art, Benglis's video leaves no question as to her rejection of such constructions. As often was the case, her position vis-à-vis academic feminist art and practice was one of confrontation and interrogation.
